Programs
- The cannabis market in Texas is medical only with authorized use of cannabis oil containing up to 1% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) for patients dealing with certain medical conditions identified by the state’s compassionate use program. The program is administered by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
- As of September 1, 2021, House Bill 1535 went into effect which changed the THC limit for medical treatments from 0.5% THC to 1% THC and established institutional review boards to evaluate and approve proposed research programs to study the medical use of low-THC cannabis in the treatment for certain patients.
- There are currently only 3 licensed dispensaries in the state: Goodblend Texas, Texas Original Compassionate Cultivation, and Fluent.
In June 2021, a survey conducted by the University of Texas found that the majority of Texans support legalizing marijuana in some form.
