Alternative Treatment Centers
- As of April 2022, there are 23 medical dispensary locations known as “Alternative Treatment Centers” in operation.

Per Public Law 2021, Chapter 16, New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory, Enforcement Assistance, and Marketplace Modernization Act, C.24:6I-49, Section 37: Business Treatment of Cannabis Establishments, Distributors, and Delivery Services.

With respect to the business treatment of cannabis establishments, distributors, and delivery services:

A financial institution, as defined by section 2 of P.L. 1983, c. 466 (C.17:16K-2), shall not, subject to the suspension or revocation of a charter or other available enforcement action by the Commissioner of Banking and Insurance, engage in any discriminatory activities with respect to the banking activities of a cannabis establishment, distributor, or delivery service, or the banking activities of a person associated with a cannabis establishment, distributor, or delivery service.
New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory, Enforcement Assistance, and Marketplace Modernization Act
New Jersey began adult use sales on April 21, 2022. Dispensaries listed here are allowed to sell up to 1 ounce of cannabis per transaction which is the equivalent of:
- 1 ounce of dried flower
- 5 grams of concentrates, resins or oils
- 1000 mg of ingestible products (or 10 100mg packages) like gummies
New Jersey’s adult use program:
- Includes the establishment of the New Jersey Regulatory Cannabis Commission and the Office of Minority, Disabled Veterans, and Women Cannabis Business Development.
- Allows for the sale of up to one (1) ounce of marijuana per individual, and the possession of up to 6 ounces of marijuana, including any adulterants or dilutants per individual.
- Licenses must not have less than 15% issued to certified minority businesses and 15% issued to certified women’s and disabled veterans’ businesses.
- At least 25% of total licenses issued with priority consideration for a cannabis establishment, distributor or delivery service to applicants from impact zones and/or applicants who plan to employ at least 25% of employees who reside in an impact zone.
- Licenses for cannabis cultivators are capped at 37. No other license caps exist.
- Per NJ Department of Health – Division of Medicinal Marijuana Guidelines, patients and caregivers should always carry proper identification, including Medicinal Marijuana Program (MMP) cards, at all times.
- The maximum purchase amount of marijuana allowed by law is 3 ounces per patient in a 30 day period unless the patient is terminally ill in which case the amount is unlimited.
- Alternative Treatment Center employees may deliver medicinal marijuana to qualifying patients and designated caregivers on behalf of an ATC at their home address.
